Gukurahundi Media Sensitisation Workshop
The Government held a Media Sensitisation Workshop, at Rainbow Hotel in Bulawayo, where editors from various publications and broadcasting houses are participating. The workshop is aimed at sensitising and engaging with the media on issues relating to Gukurahundi.
It is being facilitated by the National Council of Chiefs, supported by the Office of the President and Cabinet; various Ministries including the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services and the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works.
In February 2019, Government embarked on an initiative to pursue the resolution of the Gukurahundi issue through a home-grown process that would engage all those affected.
His Excellency President Mnangagwa mandated the National Council of Chiefs to spearhead this initiative.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Mr Mangwana encouraged the media to report “responsibly, sensitively, accurately and constructively,” while being cognisant of what is in the best interest of the country.
