HE President Mnangagwa commissioned the 1500 kilometre long BCS Zimbabwe Optic Fibre Network Project

His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa commissioned the 1500 kilometre long BCS Zimbabwe Optic Fibre Network Project. This state-of-the-art network provides the opportunity to connect communities, businesses, and Government entities in a seamless digital ecosystem.  It is set to revolutionize internet connectivity in Zimbabwe, offering tangible benefits to local internet users by improving speed, reliability, and accessibility.  The Bandwidth and Cloud Services (BCS) Group Limited in Africa BCS has been at the forefront of providing cutting-edge bandwidth and cloud services to enhance connectivity and digital infrastructure across the African Continent. It provides connectivity solutions and metro fiber across 15 countries in Eastern, Central and Southern Africa, has made remarkable strides in advancing technology and internet access.  The BCS Group Limited went into partnership with the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) and other stakeholders to bring the Zimbabwe Optic Fibre Network Project to fruition.  Over the one-year period since the commencement of the deployment of the optic fiber network, BCS has created a partner value chain cutting across different services in the supply chain including the banking and finance, telecommunications, security, railway and transport and tourism in Zimbabwe.  Zimbabwe National Policy for Information Communication Technology [ICT]  Under the Infrastructure, Utilities and Digital Economy Pillar of the National Development Strategy (NDS1), Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) have been assigned the role of key enablers of economic development, hence their entrenchment across all national development strategies for universal access to be attained by 2030 is indispensable.  The Policy identifies Priority Areas where improvement could be made to performance, sustainability and delivery of public value, such as:  -infrastructure and services;  -broadcasting services;  -postal and courier services;  -policy, legislation and regulation;  -digital skills;  -investment and funding;  innovation and local production; -inclusiveness;  -content and applications;  -emerging technologies;  -partnerships and collaborations;  -roll out of smart solutions;  -power supply;  -state enterprises and parastatals;  -national payments systems digital financial policy, among other areas.  Through this Policy, Government has put in place measures to promote access and use of ICTs and is, therefore, meant to ensure that there is trust and confidence in our e-Commerce platforms, our e-Health platforms, e-Agriculture, among other ICT applications; in actions performed through machine learning; in decisions made through artificial intelligence; and in guidance given through the use of algorithms.   The Zimbabwe National Broadband Plan The plan envisions a highly connected Information Society, enabled by universal and reliable broadband networks, services and applications by 2030.   Focus will be on: – Increasing investment in Broadband to achieve 100% Broadband coverage, improve on Broadband speed and ensure increased adoption and use of Broadband for increased productivity and economic growth.   -Ensuring non-discriminatory connectivity and access to Broadband at affordable prices across all provinces and districts on a non-exceptional basis and creating relevant Broadband use cases to stimulate adoption and use.    -Ensuring Broadband network security and resilience, enhancing Broadband quality, reliability and speed as well as human safety, security and protection of the environment.   The Smart Zimbabwe 2030 Master Plan -This has been formulated as a strategy for the country to achieve a digital economy by 2030 as well as its Vision 2030.   -A digital economy is that economic activity resulting from billions of everyday online connections among people, businesses, devices, data and processes. -The Smart Zimbabwe 2030 Master Plan will work through key specific sector-focused integrated Pillars which will act as Smart Solutions and these include: Smart Brains, Smart Government; Smart Cities; Smart Agriculture; Smart Education; Smart Transport; Smart Health; Smart Tourism; and Smart Mining; among others.
