His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa led the nation in commemorating the 2023 National Heroes Day

On 14 August 2023, His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa led the nation in commemorating the 2023 National Heroes Day, which was preceded by the burial of two national heroes; Ambassador Johannes Tomana and former Deputy Commissioner General (Retd) Milton Siziba at the National Heroes Acre.

The 2023 National Heroes Day commemorations were themed;
” Remembering our Heroes- Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo / Ilizwe Lakhiwa Ngabanikazi Balo.”

The two national heroes that were buried; Former Deputy Commissioner General of Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (Retd) Milton Bekithemba Siziba, whose nom de guerre was Jefry Machinga, died on 1 August 2023 at his Northvale home in Bulawayo after a short illness. He was 71 years.

Ambassador Johannes Tomana was born on the 9th of September 1967 in Matengeni village under Chief Mapungwana, Mt Selinda, Manicaland Province. He passed away on 6 August 2023, at the age of 55.
