Official Opening of the 9th ordinary meeting of the African Diamonds Producers Association
His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa officially opened the 9th ordinary meeting of the African Diamonds Producers Association (ADPA) at Elephant Hills, Victoria Falls. This year’s meeting is running under the theme “Special Forum: Intra-African Dialogue on Rough Diamond Benefication and Value Addition.” The Republic of Zimbabwe, as the current Chair, is hosting the 9th Ordinary Meeting of the Council of Ministers and Meeting of Experts at Elephant Hills Resort, Victoria Falls, from the 12th to the 14th of March 2024. ADPA has a membership of 21 Member States in Africa, and the following countries are attending the 9th Ordinary Meeting of the ADPA Council of Ministers Meeting: Angola, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Cote d’Ivoire, Congo Brazzaville, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Guinea, Mozambique, South Africa, Sierra Leone, Togo, Namibia and Tanzania and Russian Federation (Observer). ADPA is a platform for discussion on rough diamonds beneficiation and value addition. At least 60 percent of world diamonds come from Africa. ADPA has the following objectives: 1) Cooperation between member countries in policies and strategies concerning prospecting, mining, production, cutting and polishing, as well as development of human resources and acquisition of technologies in the diamondiferous sector. 2) Adoption of harmonized legal solutions and the exchange of information between member countries in areas related to mining and commercialization in which individuals states have acquired valuable experience. 3) Promotion of mutual technical assistance in the coordination of policies and strategies of development of the diamondiferous sector. 4) Transformation of conflict diamonds into diamonds of peace and sustainable development.
